“We live in a country that sells both escalators and Stairmasters.
We drink gourmet coffee and take sleeping pills. Curious, if not sad, state of
affairs. We eat McDonald’s and drink Slim- fast. This is
The way that this country lives is paradoxical in nature and
very strange in itself. America’s current marketing system has put many ideas
into our minds about what we want and what we need which are not the case for
the most part. Now we cannot start our day of work without a fancy brand named
coffee accompanying us because it is what we think we need. The pressure from marketing and advertising that
has been put on us as consumers to buy unimportant items we do not need is outrageous.
We want to have everything and we want
to think that it is good that we are buying in such excess.
“Facebook, of course, puts the pursuit of happiness front
and center in our digital life.”
Facebook has allowed us to be more connected than ever
before but it has also impacted our priories. Everyone is always trying to put
up a great façade on Facebook showing that they are the happiest person in the
world. It is so easy to be fake and show whatever you want because the internet
is not real. The thought of one of your other friends being happier than you is
enough to make someone lonely but Facebook is just a new media device that
people have become too invested in.
