Triangle Park is a place of community for all of the city of
Lexington. Many types of people use this park. The space acts as a place of
serenity within the bustling city of Lexington. It is located in the middle of
downtown on the Main Street. The Lexington Center is very close and the two
spaces work together in harmony. The park is easy to get to and there are
various attractions right around the space which makes it very accessible to
the public. The space is also great for various events which is what the space
is used for.
The Lexington Center
works closely with Triangle Park as it is located next to the Lexington Center.
It encompasses multiple attractions. The bottom floor of the center has a food court
with a wide range of options. It is open from ten o’ clock in the morning to
six o’ clock in the evening which is also around the same time that parents
would most likely take their children to the park. If there was an event that was
happening at the park then the food court in the center would be a perfect
place to go to get a bite to eat and to get out of the sun. All throughout the food court there are
various advertisements about various upcoming shows in the area or for brands.
There is also a Toyota show room that exhibits new cars that acts as a source
of advertising. The Rupp arena’s entrance is in the center and, in addition to
concerts and other events, it serves as a place to house the basketball games
for the University of Kentucky. There is a lot of culture and school spirit around
the arena.
The park is not usually crowed with people but there people
who use it as a place to stop and relax or eat a nice meal outside. There are
people who take some extra time to walk through the park when they are walking
from one place to another place downtown. People use the space to take pictures
and to just run around outside. With the Lexington Center being across the
street, there is marquee that shows upcoming events so the people at the park
can know what is going on. The space is non-smoking which makes the air clean
for everyone especially children. There is a sign on at the entrance that
states rules which just encourage common courtesy. The park is supposed to be a
relaxed place and the rules that prohibit climbing, organized games and
amplified music reassures that it stays that way.
On side closest to the Lexington Center there is a huge
waterfall on the entire side of the triangle. The waterfall fountain is very
organized, geometric and symmetrical. The waterfall is close to the walking
path and it would be easy to get into. There are multiple signs that say “DANGER
STAY OUT OF FOUNTAIN” which imply that the creators of the waterfall fountain
and the park think that people would go into the waterfall fountain. Kids are
going to the park on a regular basis and they realize that kids like to climb into
water. The park is in the middle of the city and there are lots of cars
speeding by and there would be lots of city noise but the fountain cancels it
out and makes the space seem more tranquil.
There is lots of seating in the park and the seats and
tables are very neat and organized. The chairs are metal but welcoming and
comfortable. They are inviting for people to sit in who are walking through the
city. There are also walls surrounding ivy beds within the park that could be
used for extra seating if there were to be a big event. There are signs on the
ivy beds that say “Please do not enter the Ivy Beds.” There is a large, well-kept
grass patch in the middle of the park which you can put blankets on to sit. There
are chairs and tables with umbrellas by a café outside which draw people to sit
by the café.
The entire park has aesthetic appeal and it is all very neat
and geometric. There are flower pots and the park is inviting and welcoming.
Triangle Park is used on a slow afternoon as well as busy basketball games and
everywhere in between.
